Rink International provides advanced testing services to government, military and industrial clients who want assistance with engineering development, forensic analysis and failure investigation. Our laboratory tests a wide range of technologies, including microelectronic components, implantable devices, energetic components, advanced sensors and micro-propulsion systems.
We offer world-leading services for:
We test integrated circuits, discrete devices, micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) and implantable devices.
We test a wide array of cylinders and other vessels with our state-of-the art radioisotope detection equipment.
We test airbag inflators, gas generators, initiation technologies, primers, detonators and other mission-critical systems.
Rink International is an independent engineering laboratory that is committed to providing objective, technically sound engineering assessments to ensure the reliability of microelectronics and microelectronic devices. The company is led by founder and lead engineer Dr. Karl Rink, a world-renowned scientist who is dedicated to furthering technology to improve people’s lives and our environment.
Dr. Rink is an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho where he has taught mechanical and chemical engineering for over 20 years. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Utah, an MS in Engineering from Purdue University and a BS in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics from the University of Minnesota. Dr. Rink has:
Rink International uses a conventional krypton-85 radioisotope (Radiflo®) and helium mass spectrometry (HMS) leak-detection equipment together with Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometry to perform hermetic testing and analysis of microelectronic components and related technologies. Our advanced equipment also allows us to analyze the physical and chemical characteristics of miscellaneous compounds.
Microelectronic packages we test
Rink International performs leak testing of pressure vessels and advanced microelectronic technologies, as well as high-sensitivity leak-rate testing. The state-of-the art radioisotope detection equipment we have developed for these tests supports hermetic testing at high pressures (up to hundreds of atmospheres) while maintaining the rapid cycle times necessary to support the needs of high-volume manufacturing operations.
High-pressure vessels we test
Rink International specializes in testing energetic devices such as gas generators, initiators, primers and energetic materials over a wide range of conditions. For enhanced testing, we use high-pressure calorimeters and strand burners, pyro-valve devices, ballistic gas compressors and other experimental apparatuses. By carefully analyzing our test data, we are able to uncover important insights about the underlying thermochemical processes that affect the performance of the devices under test.
With the financial support of NASA, Rink International is currently developing a family of innovative, small-volume moisture standards to address an important need within the microelectronics manufacturing community. These standards will inform the calibration and validation of RGA systems used to assess the internal contents of microelectronic packages, implantable medical devices, MEMS (micro-electromechanical systems) and other technologies.
Rink International offers consulting services for and short courses on hermeticity testing and internal ballistics. Our courses cover leak detection and its relationship to the underlying fundamental principles of fluid mechanics, gas dynamics and thermochemistry.
